Black Hawk

Black Hawk or Black Sparrow Hawk:

(Sauk Makataimeshekiakiak (Mahkate:wi-meši-ke:hke:hkwa), "be a large black hawk") (spring 1767 – October 3, 1838) was a leader and warrior of the Sauk American Indian tribe in what is now the United States. Although he had inherited an important historic medicine bundle, he was not a hereditary civil chief of the Sauk, but was an appointed war chief. He was generally known in English as Black Hawk.

During the War of 1812, Black Hawk fought on the side of the British. Later he led a band of Sauk and Fox warriors against settlers in Illinois and present-day Wisconsin in the 1832 Black Hawk War. After the war he was captured and taken to the eastern U.S. where he and other British Band leaders toured several cities. Black Hawk died in 1838 in what is now southeastern Iowa. He left behind an enduring legacy through many eponyms, and other tributes.

Early life

Black Hawk, or Black Sparrow Hawk (Sauk Makataimeshekiakiak (Mahkate:wi-meši-ke:hke:hkwa), "be a large black hawk") was born in the village of Saukenuk on the Rock River, in present-day Rock Island, Illinois in 1767. The Sauk used the village in the summer for raising corn and as a burial site, while moving across the Mississippi for winter hunts and fur trapping. Black Hawk was born a great-grandson of Thunder, Nanamakee, who was an important principal chief among the Sauk. Although Black Hawk was never a civil chief, he often led war parties and had killed his first man by the time he was 15 years old. Before his 18th birthday he had led war parties to victory.

Legacy

Black Hawk sculpture by Lorado Taft

A sculpture by Lorado Taft overlooks the Rock River in Oregon, Illinois, titled The Eternal Indian, this statue is commonly known as the Black Hawk Statue. In modern times Black Hawk has become a tragic hero and a large number of present-day commemorations exist. These are mostly in the form of eponyms; roads, sports teams and schools are commonly named after Black Hawk. Of all the wars fought in United States history, the Black Hawk War is one of few wars named for a person.

The claim that Jim Thorpe is directly related to Black Hawk has been debunked by his daughter, Grace. She said that the family was descended from the "Thunder Clan" (Black Hawk's clan) but there was no direct relation to Black Hawk. However, Black Hawk was one of Thorpe's heroes; his daughter said he stated that being descended from the same clan as Black Hawk made him as proud as his Olympic gold medals. Part of the confusion about the Thorpe–Black Hawk connection probably comes from the fact that his mother, Charlotte, was descended from a Potawatomi chief, Louis Vieux.

The Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League are indirectly named after Chief Black Hawk. The Blackhawks' first owner, Frederic McLaughlin, was a commander with the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. This Division was nicknamed the "Blackhawk Division" after Chief Black Hawk. McLaughlin named the hockey team in honor of the military unit.

The United States Army named the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter after the famous Sauk Chief. The U.S. Army generally uses Native American names for its aircraft.

Abracadabra

Hi! Hope you are all great ...
The Thing i got today is ONE WORD which is Abracadabra

Now, question is What is Abracadabra?
Answer is: Abracadabra is an incantation used as a magic word in conjuring tricks that historically was believed to have healing powers when inscribed on an amulet.

The first known mention of the word ABRACADABRA was in the 2nd century AD in a poem called De Medicina Praecepta by Serenus Sammonicus, physician to the Roman emperor Caracalla, who prescribed that the sufferer from the disease wear an amulet containing the word written in the form of a triangle.

This, he explained, diminishes the hold over the patient of the spirit of the disease. Other Roman emperors, including Geta and Alexander Severus, were followers of the medical teachings of Serenus Sammonicus and are likely to have used the incantation as well.

According to the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica it was used as a magical formula by the Gnostics of the sect of Basilides in invoking the aid of beneficent spirits against disease and misfortune. It is found on Abraxas stones which were worn as amulets. Subsequently its use spread beyond the Gnostics, and in modern times it is applied contemptuously (e.g. by the early opponents of the evolution theory) to a conception or hypothesis which purports to be a simple solution of apparently insoluble phenomena.

The word is now commonly used as an incantation by stage magicians and their imitators.

Abracadabra sounds as Abrahadabra, In Aramaic this word roughly translates into "I will create as I speak."

Hahaha! i know you are thinking where i heard this ONE WORD :D

Inglourious Basterds

Lt. Aldo Raine: DONNY!
Sgt. Donny Donowitz: [From offscreen] Yeah?
Lt. Aldo Raine: We got a German here who wants to die for his country! Oblige him!

HI every ONE, yup
Inglourious Basterds
the movie of Brad pitt as (Lt. Aldo Raine). and this is Memorable quotes which is nominated for OSCAR too.

Question is Why do people join the military to serve their country even though they can die?. Answer is simple patriotism and making a contribution to fighting for an ideal for which one feels it is worth dying for.Others though may join because it's a job- a way to earn a living. and because of these other people countries loose the war. That is the summery of this great movie Inglourious Basterds

Always a Count for Variable Change

After attending Friday's prayer, I am in my university and my fellows are gone to home because they think other department which take class with us has a paper so class will not be held today then WHY i am waiting for starting a class?
Answer is simple ONES i hear a quote in a movie "21" that was "Always a Count for Variable Change". I am not too much good in counting but i try to apply this quote in my life and i really got some success by applying this.for example as i said i am in university right now and i don't know whether a class held today or not .but i am in the university WHY?... their is a reason
*there is 50 50 chance that i take a class.mean 50 50 chance i can get some knowledge by taking the class.
*if i gone to home then 100% chance that i can't take a class.
*that means if i reverse this thing like i stay in university then i have 100% chance that i can take class mean i can get some knowledge :D how's that.
yup! class not held and this is now only 5 min left by ending class time . . . But my count is right because i got a Knowledge or you can say information about the great poet and story Writer "Hans Christian Andersen" which has 205Th Birthday to day. Happy Birthday Christian. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Christian_Andersen
